Mixed media Monday

I have a sewing machine. It is a basic Singer machine. I was trying to make it work and gave up because of many problems. Recently my husband's cousin repaired it. After that it kind of working for me.
That does not mean I can sew garments. Now, I am trying to use it for my mixed media work. You know, sewing with hand takes a lot of time.
After spending much time on hand embroidering on a piece, I decided to try using the machine.

That one was a collage on index card. I stitched it to the cloth piece.
Added a piece of cotton fabric I painted using washable markers.
It feels not balanced yet. The embroidery is looking good, don't you all agree?

I added a new card to my Etsy shop yesterday.
I am working on a journal page using the ephemera received last week.

The baby picture and the quote  from +JackieP Neal . The middle is a painted cotton fabric. The heart I cut from cloth and used some purple acrylic to stain it.

Added some more paint. The baby picture has a special meaning to me.

Mixed Media Fabric collage

I wanted to make a new fabric mixed media collage . Thinking about it for sometime actually.
I dyed a tea towel using green tea. Tea made the towel look old and used. I used the towel for wiping off excess paint from previous projects too.
Looking on it, I decided to do some hand sewing.

I cut the tea towel to make a smaller size. There was a length of ribbon which I bought from my last trip to South India. With my Singer sewing machine,(which is a very basic one) attached the ribbon to frame the work. I tried few lines of different stitch patterns.
Can you see the blue paint got outlined with stitches? Those are just running stitch.
There is this denim butterfly I made and  embellished a few days before.

It was a lot of fun to add the beads and sequins on the dark blue fabric.

Now stitched the butterfly on to the background and made a few loops for hanging.

That beaded embellishment is from a vintage costume necklace. That is also hand sewn to the fabric.
It is ready to go on my wall.

What kind of feelings/thoughts come to your mind when looking on this one?

Story of Sue: mixed media on Cardboard

Sue loved books. Sue loved poetry. I caught her staring on the tree branch sometimes. She said, the leaves were doing dancing for her. She finds so many things interesting, which normal people don't even care.

Sometimes the girls in the class called her "the writer". She doesn't seem to care. But, looking back, I think, she was trying so hard to fit in., trying hard to look ordinary. Still, she was sticking out, somehow. I am not sure what was it...

Let me present Sue:

Do you have a Sue in your life?

Wednesday's Mixed Media work and tips

I am not particularly interested in making something. But, doing nothing is not so great.
So, decided to view Kelly Donovan's Youtube video to get inspiration.

Kelly knows a lot about mixed media, (in my humble opinion).
She has a unique style of explaining things.
Now, she is kind to join me in her facebook group.
Today, I decided to work on watercolor paper.

It is hard for me to draw. Glad to tell you, the eyes came out the way I wanted. I call this one "Loneliness".
I want to say, I made a stamp with rubber bands as mentioned in the book I was reading. I used acrylic paint to stamp it over the eye. The white part is homemade fiber paste.

While making the background, I placed a printer paper on the sheet to remove excess paint. See what happened...
Isn't it beautiful? I have another paper to torn and use on the future projects. When I mixed one color more than I wanted to, it was used on my journal

Do you have any tips to share?
